Born in Olpe in 1976, Jan Heitmann developed an early interest in card games such as Skat and Doppelkopf, spending his free time mastering card tricks. Just like with card tricks, Heitmann also familiarized himself with the theory of playing poker by extensively reading various books. Having completed his studies, he found himself swept up in an unprecedented poker frenzy triggered by a single triumph in the United States. Chris Moneymaker, a mere amateur poker player, clinched the World Series of Poker Main Event title, having qualified for the championship through an online poker platform. This momentous victory set off a domino effect, propelling the world of poker to new heights.

Having successfully obtained his degree in business administration, Heitmann was now faced with the dilemma of deciding which career path to pursue. Neither the prospect of becoming an investment banker nor the allure of a job as a corporate consultant seemed appealing to him. Thus, he found himself in search of an alternative avenue to channel his skills and passion.

Jan Heitmann opted to embark on a journey across Europe, financing his travels through playing poker. "The plan was, if I go broke, then I'll come back home and find a job. The plan, however, went completely awry. I didn't go broke."

During that time, Heitmann spent a year traveling through cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, and Barcelona, engaging in online poker. In 2004, he took his first trip to Las Vegas to participate in the World Series of Poker. "All in all, it was such a enjoyable and financially rewarding experience that I thought to myself: Wow, I'm going to keep doing this for a while. Accidentally, a career unfolded before me."

Unlike my previous poker career, which primarily involved taking money from other people while playing cards, I now provide added value to others with this card game for their own decision-making. It is a complete shift from my earlier days, where my main focus was on profiting at the expense of others during poker games. Today, my goal is to empower individuals by equipping them with valuable insights and strategies through this game of cards.

Now, in my older years, I find much more enjoyment in creating value rather than simply taking money from others. It's almost as if I've discovered a newfound passion for making a difference, you could say. Of course, I still engage in the act of relieving people of their financial burdens, but now it's more like a hobby that I genuinely enjoy.

If there were one superlative option and the other one was inferior, then it wouldn't be a difficult decision. In such cases, one would simply opt for the superior alternative.
